BATIMATEC 2014 – Interview with Marcos Morte

  |   2014, Batimatec, Fairs, Interview   |   No comment

BATIMATEC Trade Show was held in May at the Palais des Expositions in Algiers. One of the most important trade shows for the construction industry in North Africa, which MORTE intended to attend and have a strong presence at, not only with a spectacular booth, but also introducing the Die Washer -our new product- internationally.

Unfortunately this year, for reasons beyond MORTE’s control, it has not been possible to be present at the Show due to the change in location proposed at the last minute by the organizers of the Fair, which was not only physically but also thematically very far away from our customers.

Given the difficulties the organizers had to keep us in the space initially hired, MORTE had to make the decision not to participate in the fair with a booth, even though we did attend in order to be with our customers and to show our support to the fair.

While the fair was being held, issue No. 1049 of ICV magazine published a long interview with Marcos Morte, MORTE’s CEO, which provides an overview of the keys to MORTE’s success in the Algerian market.

What are the prospects for your business on the Algerian market in 2014? Have the upcoming elections in Algeria had or still have an impact on business?

MORTE maintains the same philosophy we had when we entered the Algerian market years ago: To offer our customers the best product and service with the highest profitability for their production. This profitability is achieved not only by using materials which provide our dies with high durability, or by means of a modular core holder system for easy replacement of parts, thus increasing the useful life of the dies. In addition, at MORTE we offer our customers all our experience and technology in order to launch new products, working alongside Algerian ceramic manufacturers in large projects which can make the ceramic industry in this country become one of the most relevant ones internationally.

What is new about Morte in Algeria?

At MORTE we remain committed to providing the most profitable dies on the market, while making them suit the particularities of each ceramic company. We also offer a tuning service that optimizes time and solves problems both when a new factory starts operations and when a new production line is implemented.

On the other hand, we should highlight the fact that MORTE has just launched its new Die Washer, which has already started selling in Algeria. We are sure that this new product will play an important role in order to increase profitability in the production processes of our customers.

Could you name a particularly outstanding project carried out in Algeria in the last twelve months?

During this past year, MORTE has equipped new facilities in AMOURI EL KHEMIS, MESSAOUDI PREST, DJEDEI, SFAPROMACO, TAGHASTE, STE ZIBAN TRAVAUX, BELHADI, ARBAL and PROGEC-MAC.

Several studies have also been carried out with a 6 output B8 die for the BOUIRA group, comparing the results obtained with MORTE dies and those of our competitors.

Research has shown that MORTE dies offer over 30% higher strength and durability, which results in increased profitability for our customers.

As a result of this research, the BOUIRA group placed an order for three new dies with the MORTE technology for B8 and B12 products, which have already been delivered on time.

This research shows MORTE’s commitment in the pursuit of customer profitability through new materials which are more resistant to wear that will improve our customers’ competitiveness.

Have you noticed an evolution in the bricks and tiles produced in Algeria? What type of product can you see an evolution in?

The truth is that we have not noticed a significant change in this respect. It seems that in Algeria the market works with B8 and B12, although some clients are also engaged in the manufacture of slabs, yet with a very limited range of products.

At MORTE we believe that the development of new products that include specifications designed to improve heat transfer and sound insulation would significantly improve the quality of housing construction in Algeria.

In this sense, we make MORTE’s experience in this type of product for the European market available to our customers. This experience could be an important competitiveness factor for those Algerian companies which are considering incorporating these products to their offering.

With regard to the opening of offices or subsidiaries in the countries where you are working, what are the benefits and drawbacks of owning your business for your company?

Since 2009, MORTE has been represented in Algeria by METALTECH. In this way we offer our clients excellent technical assistance resulting in greater flexibility in terms of service, tuning and even repairs of dies.

This way of working, with a continued physical presence in the country, is particularly valued by our customers, which encourages us to continue working in this direction, as well as providing our Algerian customers with any technological advances developed in the parent company.
