A new way of working

by Marcos Morte, CEO of MORTE

MORTE began working in Germany in 2012, when we supplied the first brick extrusion dies. It has been over a year and millions of parts have already been manufactured with our dies in this country.

What did we see in Germany? We saw that we could be helpful, we could be an alternative to those who had been their suppliers of dies until then and MORTE’s proposal could be attractive because it represented a new way of working. Why?

  • Thanks to our flexibility, as we are known for the modular design of our dies, which sets us apart from our competiton worldwide.
  • Thanks to the materials we use, which provide our products with additional stability and high wear resistance. And, therefore, a long life, in addition to ensuring greater quality of the parts to be extruded. Unlike the usual chrome parts used in Germany, the materials made available by MORTE for high wear areas (frame, cores and sleeve) guarantee a greater durability of the die and a larger number of extruded bricks.
  • But, above all, thanks to our service. We work together with the customer from the very first tests. We try things, detect potential improvements and implement them. We travel to the customer’s plant as many times as needed in order to make sure that our dies are what the customers need and provide them with advice on both assembly and use. We redesign dies as many times as necessary… And test the product again.

I honestly believe that this represents the new way of working I mentioned above and the results have so far been very good. The reward: some customers in Germany manufacturing high quality ceramic parts and feeling very satisfied with the service provided by MORTE.

After working for slightly more than one year, we have shown that the physical distance between Spain and Germany or language are no barriers. Our customers are satisfied with the initial service, with the after sales service along HUP, our partners, and with the technical construction of our dies and the strength of materials, which can be seen in the quality of the manufactured parts.

Emparrillado

The shift to hard metal, a material which is far more resistant to abrasion and wear than the chrome parts which used to be common in Germany, makes it possible to fully use the die structure and ensures savings in the process so that the investment will clearly pay off.

This new way of working, by first offering a heat-treated steel solution, and later, once all the details had been adjusted and any potential problems had been solved, replacing items likely to wear with ones made from more resistant materials, is the most efficient solution to be able to extrude any ceramic piece with the highest quality at the lowest possible cost.

I honestly think the German market needed a competitor which could offer another alternative for the supply of dies for the ceramics industry and I believe MORTE, with our professionals and our technology, to be that competitive supplier. As one of our best customers in Germany says: “Competition encourages business”.

In the last two years we have managed to ensure after-sales service in Germany and are currently working to strengthen our commercial presence in this market, one which we believe to be strategic. We can put success down to having gone step by step: we should remember that MORTE eventually came to the German market in 2012, but not before one and a half year exploring and touring German ceramics production plants in order to get to know their needs.

MORTE’s long-term planning has been key to achieving recognition by the demanding German market.

This new way of working and addressing each market, with a local partner, is leading us to a major international expansion, which in 2013 has enabled us to consolidate our position in Germany as well as to open up to new markets, such as the Balkans, Russia, America (Argentina, Cuba, Panama…), Romania and Iraq. We already export worldwide. In Europe our main operations include Germany, Holland, France, Romania, Portugal, Belgium, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Kosovo and Turkey; in America: Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Panama, Cuba and Venezuela; in Asia: China, Iraq and Iran; and in Africa: Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Botswana, Morocco and Angola.

Before I conclude, I should mention that at MORTE we design and manufacture dies, funnels and spare parts for extrusion of all kinds of ceramic parts. We have become leaders thanks to our professionals and cutting-edge technology. This leadership has been made possible through our commitment to customers and to continuous research in materials and solutions. MORTE quality is further guaranteed by ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 quality and environmental certifications. But above all, by something which has already become our motto: we manufacture one product for each ceramic.
