New meeting of the ECTS (European Ceramic Technology Suppliers) in Sanxenxo
On May 24th the first ECTS meeting of this year was held in the Galician town of Sanxenxo, again with the presence of MORTE, represented by Marcos Morte and Isabel Vicioso.
To start the day, as usual, the economic situation of the sector was reviewed. In general terms, the current situation is seen as satisfactory and stable, although there are still some difficulties to find a booming region in the near future. This fact causes that the commercial efforts to be carried out are constantly increasing.
Based on this, the association puts the focus on Africa as one of the regions that can emerge soon, carrying out a presentation offering figures on its different regions and possibilities. In turn, the members of the association decide to hold a new Symposium in Malaysia and Vietnam next November.
Furthermore, it is pointed out the good performance of the national markets (EU 28) and the technological development that is gradually taking place in Latin America. On the other hand, there are some other markets such as Russia, with great potential, but which have problems due to the devaluation of their local currency relative to the Euro.
Finally, Frederike Krebs, representative of VDMA in Brussels, made a presentation on the EU’s Climate Policy and the outlook for the ceramics industry after 2020, focusing on the efforts to limit the increase in the average temperature of the planet, on the instruments to achieve the objectives set for the year 2050 and on explaining the existing options for the decarbonisation of the industry.
